The Drive Line 100 is this weeks big event at Norway Michigan’s ASA sanctioned race track. This will be the second such event in the speedways history. It is a pay for lap event where most drivers will make the same amount of money for the 100 laps they run.
This year Fran Prestey co- owner of Five Star Stock Car Bodies has some new twists to the race as it was from last year. Everyone making the 100 lap event will be paid $7.50/lap. The new twists come in that also you will be paid $25.00 for every car that you pass in the 100 lap event. The leader of the event will also get paid an extra $20.00/lap with a bonus lap payment at 1,10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,and 100 of $100.00/lap. This should make for some great racing.
Many of the ASAMT travelers and many of the state of Wisconsin’s great racers will attend this event. I have talked to Jeff Storm and the Hype Energy drink car and he said he could not wait to get back to the Norway speed park. He said his 9 to 1 Wegner engine will be put to the test at the tight high speed track. Dalton Zehr rookie of the year contender in the ASAMT will also make his way up from Daytona Beach Fl. to race his Coleman Racing Products/ McGunnegil Racing engines car with his new 2 bbl spec engine. Gregg Haese also running for rookie of the year in the ASAMT will be up with his Manitowoc Motors Ace powered car. Norway stand out and ASAMT regular Jamie Iverson will also be at the event in his Competition Specialists Ace powered car with long time sponsors Dow Dawson and Wards Auto Body. Kris Kelly in his Ace powered Thirsty Whale, Winners Circle sponsored machine has also filed an entry for the event. I have been told that Lowell Bennett will also be up in his Wegner 9-1 also. One of the highlights of the event will be Matt Kenseth’s son Ross Kenseth in his ASA Late Model crate engine powered, Pathfinder Chassis. I am sure Joe or Jason (Pathfinder chassis owners) will be there to turn the wrenches for Ross.
Breaking news today tells us that Scott Hanson many time Champion at W.I.R. will also now be racing in the Bob Menor owned Cheve crate powered car. Tim Olson owner of the ASAMT will also try to fit this race in his event schedule for this year. Tim is to be bringing the Echo Chain Saw car over to compete in this event to show support for Norway Speedway and Five Star Stock Car Bodies.
Many of the locals are also ready for the big event. Scott Stanchina off his big win of last week at Norway and also Tommy Gee is ready for a win at the speedway. Old faithful Bruce White and the Lighting McQueen car of Johnny Osterman will also be at this big event. Gene Coleman and Norway’s last years champ Troy Nelson will be trying to make there name known as winners of this event also. Mike Riechenberger and his son Brandon will be a father and son team also working on winning the Driveline 100 at Norway Mi.
Grandstands open at noon and racing begins at 6:00 pm with qualifying starting at 4:00.
Admission is only $10.00 for this event and children under 5 are free. Get there early to get a good seat but you will be standing up to see all the racing action. See you at Norway!
