DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Friday, March 19, 2010) - Illiana Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track in Schererville, IN, continues to be one of the more popular destinations for race fans in the Chicagoland area. Last season, they stepped up to become an ASA Member Track and the results they saw made it an easy decision to renew in 2010.

"It has been a positive experience since joining the ASA member track program," Mike Mikuly, Promoter said. "It has also been very beneficial to the drivers who compete at the speedway. ASA really gets the word out. Anyone who knows me personally, can tell you if it wasn't a great deal I wouldn't be interested."

Illiana Motor Speedway has a 1/2-mile asphalt oval with semi-banked sweeping turns that provides some of the best side-by-side racing around. Along with an infield quarter-mile oval it provides a great variety of Saturday night racing action with Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Turbo Stox, Legends and Pure Stock.

"We are looking forward to the 2010 season. We hear of new cars being built, drivers changing divisions and hopefully increased crowds," Mikuly said. "I feel the economy is turning a little, by no means is it great, but seems to be getting better."

They will have a busy 2010 season with the ASA Midwest Tour making its second visit to Illiana on Saturday, June 19th for the 9th Annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100.

Also on their 2010 schedule, the Molenaar Classic with fireworks by the Mad Bomber on July 3rd, The USAC Silver Crown Series on July 8th, Crashfest with school bus and trailer figure races on July 10th and September 25th, Old Timers Night featuring Midwest Vintage Cars on August 14th, and the 49th Annual Tony Bettenhausen 100 on September 11th.

Great to see all of you who could make it out to last Saturday's meeting at Viking Lanes in Stoughton. I have posted the tire rules for 2010 below and I have made reference to a couple of changes in the ASA Educational Series program.

One notable change from 2010...if your division is running as a support division for a leased event such as the ASA Midwest Tour race on May 2nd or RK Promotions All Star Challenge on June 29th you will receive 30 points for running the event regardless of where you finish in the feature. This would apply to the Area Sportsman for the May 2nd event at this point.

General Manager Dave Grueneberg also discussed the 2010 schedule and his goals for the season. "We have made some schedule changes and are starting later this year. Traditionally the Friday nights in May have not been good weather-wise and we really have to watch our expenses. The racing business is battling many challenges and we are not immune to those at MIS. We are making some changes in how we do things and it's important that we all work together."

Dave Oswald, technical director, reviewed the rule revisions in the Late Models, Area Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Bandits. The Legends will follow their national series rules just as they have in the past.

Pete Raskovic also discussed some marketing tips for racing teams. "If you have kids on your team through ASA Educational Series get to your local media. They love stories about your efforts with the kids. This mentor relationship is so valuable for all involved."

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Friday, March 12, 2010) - Larry Pond's phone has been ringing off the hook and his e-mail box is overflowing as ASA Member Tracks have been getting in contact with him about becoming part of the 2010 ASA Educational Series program. The ASA ES started as a pilot program at Madison International Speedway, an ASA Member Track, last season and will expand to be available at all ASA Member Tracks in 2010.

"The ASA Member Track promoters have really shown a lot of interest in this program and they see it as a big positive for their tracks," Pond, the ASA Educational Series National Director said. "We have formed a great partnership with Ohio Technical College to give high school kids the opportunity to be eligible for a scholarship to their very well known school."

The program is a co-sponsorship between Ohio Technical College and the ASA-Educational Series. The purpose of the program is to involve young ladies and men that are currently in high school in the auto racing industry and reward them with scholarships to Ohio Technical College based upon their performance.

High School students may apply for the program through their contacts with Ohio Technical College. Applications will be forwarded to the ASA-Educational Series for evaluation. Students that are accepted will become ASA-Educational Series members and will be assigned to a specific ASA race team competing at an ASA Member Track. They will earn points based on their performance with the race team during the race season.

Last year, Pond along with Pete Raskovic, a founder of the program and now consultant along with Randy Dziadowicz of Ohio Technical College, handed out $250,000 in OTC scholarship credits to 30 students at Madison International Speedway in its pilot program. Madison is already on board for the 2010 season.

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Tuesday, March 9, 2010) - It was a re-building year in 2009 for Steve Sinclair as he took over the operations of Wilmot Raceway, an ASA Affiliated Track in Wilmot, WI. After a successful first year, he is ready to step it up for the 2010 season.

"We are definitely increasing the schedule, so there is a lot more race dates for everybody concerned," Sinclair said. "We have five base classes there with the winged 410 Sprint Cars, Modifieds, Street Stocks, 1200cc Mini Sprints, and Fearless 4's which is like a hornet class. Plus we have a bunch of specials, the ASA IRA Bumper-to-Bumper Outlaw Sprint Series is coming there five times, a UMP Summer Nationals Late Model date, the Badger Midgets twice, the Illini Midgets once, an AMA motorcycle race, so we have a pretty busy schedule."

This schedule will begin with a two day opening weekend on May 15-16 with an Open Wheel Extravaganza featuring 410 Sprints, Mini Sprints, Modifieds, Badger Midgets, Street Stock, and Fearless 4's.

Looking back at 2009, Sinclair was happy with how the season went. Part of that success was how he came up with the schedule, "On a limited schedule we had a great year. We are upping the dates but its not going to be an every Saturday night deal," Sinclair explained. "I am looking at what is around us and trying to schedule properly. It worked last year, in some cases where there is a big special on a Saturday we will run our guys on Friday, trying to take advantage of the fact that maybe we can draw some cars those tracks to come down by us and it has worked."
